How handlelabel works
handlelabel makes the "if you came with a warning label, what would it say?" joke into an actual, nicely designed label you can save and share. Here is how to use it and get the best-looking result.
What is handlelabel?
handlelabel is a free, one-screen generator. You tap a handful of personality quirks — the coffee dependency, the 47 open browser tabs, the tendency to leave people on read — and it composes them into an industrial-style hazard card: a bold header band, your warning lines paired with hand-drawn pictograms, a mock batch number, and a small watermark. You can then download it or share it as a portrait PNG.
It rides the long-running meme about warning labels for people. The point is that the output actually looks designed, not like clip art — that is the whole reason it is worth sharing.
How to make your label
- Pick a style. Choose Caution (hazard-yellow), Biohazard, Fragile (kraft shipping label), Radioactive or Flammable (a fiery hazard-tape frame). Switching restyles the preview instantly, so try all five.
- Pick your chaos. Tap 3 to 6 traits across the four buckets — Habits, Emotional hazards, Social and Chaos. Each tap adds a warning line and its pictogram to the live preview. Three is the minimum; six is the ceiling.
- Add your own line (optional). Type one custom warning, up to 48 characters. It appears on the card in a dashed "custom" box. This text stays on your device and is never uploaded.
- Download or share. Tap “Download my label”. On phones that support it, the native share sheet opens with the image attached; everywhere else the PNG saves straight to your device. Then hit “Make another” to restyle or reshuffle.
Tips for a better label
- Mix the buckets. One trait from each bucket reads funnier and looks more balanced than four from the same one.
- Four or five is the sweet spot. Three can feel thin; six can get busy. Four or five warnings usually lays out best.
- Try every style before you save. The same traits feel very different in Fragile versus Radioactive — the restyle is instant, so it costs you nothing.
- Keep the custom line short and punchy. It is printed in caps; a tight phrase like “TALKS TO THE DOG MORE THAN PEOPLE” beats a full sentence.
- The batch number is deterministic. The same set of traits always produces the same batch code, so a re-made label is consistent.
- Share the image, not a link. The PNG is the point — it unfurls and reads on its own.
FAQ
Is it free? Yes, completely, and there is no account or sign-up.
Does anything I type get uploaded? No. The custom line is drawn onto the label in your browser only. It is never sent to a server, never put in a share link, and never used in the site’s preview image.
What size is the image? A 1080×1350 portrait PNG, rendered at 2× for crispness — sized for Instagram, Pinterest and link previews.
Can I use it on my phone? Yes. It is built mobile-first and the share sheet is used where the browser supports it.
Is it about real people? No. Every built-in line is a light, self-directed joke about common quirks — it is meant for laughing at yourself, not at anyone else. It is for entertainment only.
